Having trouble Checking Out and Paying?  Here are step-by-step instructions and some tips for avoiding common pitfalls.

If you've already filled out the Conference Form, go to the Payment Page:

From the table select your conference fee (To select student rates from the drop-down menu, click the small downward arrow on the right of the field box) and click the "Add to Cart" button.  Please note that if PayPal is busy, it may take 10-30 seconds to respond (both here and at checkout), so be patient.

That takes you to the shopping cart page where you see details of your
purchase selection.  Review your order to make sure it's correct.  (You can "remove" an item from your cart and then "update" if necessary, or you can click the "Continue Shopping" link on the bottom left to add more items to the shopping cart.  When you are done, click the "Checkout" button on the bottom right side of the shopping cart page (DO NOT click on "Checkout with PayPal" unless you already have a PayPal account and wish to pay that way--otherwise click on the
button to the left that just says "Checkout").  This takes you to a page
that has "Your order summary" on the left and says "Choose a way to Pay" on
the right.  Ignore the default PayPal login section and do NOT enter a password.  Some people think the login codes we emailed after you filled out the conference form are for payment here, but those codes are only for our DHLSNA website, to give access to our membership Directory information.

To pay by credit or bank card, you'll want to click the link below that reads "Pay with a debit or credit card, or Bill Me Later."  (NOTE: "Bill me later" isn't actually an option since we are not set up for that).  We know that PayPal intentionally makes this particular link --"Pay with a debit or credit card"-- the smaller
option of the two, but it is located below the PayPal box on the right.

That will open up the section where you enter your credit card information. PayPal may still suggest to "(Optionally) Join PayPal for faster future checkout" but the information it prompts you for is to process your credit card purchase, unless you are from a country that "requires" a PayPal account even to pay with credit card--this may be the case with Italy (we're still investigating this problem with PayPal since some appear to be able to pay and others can't without creating a password.)  The first question is your Country, which is defaulted to the United States, but can be changed if you click on the small downward arrow on the right of the field, creating a drop-down menu.  It is important not to skip this step because the form changes to match the country's information requirements (such as phone format).

After completing the credit card form, you click the "Pay" button to submit.  If PayPal still rejects payment, then it may be that the credit or bank card you are trying to use is not recognized by PayPal in your country--choose only from the list of cards provided. A problem may also occur if you have set up a PayPal account linked to your credit card in the past and have forgotten about it.  If so, PayPal insists on your logging in first as a security measure to protect against lost or stolen cards.  Or PayPal may not be set up for your country yet, as in the case of Pakistan. PayPal accepts 24 currencies in 190 countries.  If yours is not on the list, please contact us for an alternate way to pay.

Special Note for Mac users:
If you are using the Safari browser on an Apple product (MacBook, IPad, IPhone, ect.) and are having problems with the payment buttons locking up or having strange shopping cart issues where it doubles up or drops items, for instance, then please be aware that there is a history of incompatibility between the Safari browser and the PayPal website.  The "Add to Cart" and "View Cart" buttons link to the PayPal website so that all sensitive information is handled by their secure environment.  According to Internet help threads, PayPal is aware of this issue and is working toward a fix.  Until then we can only recommend that if you have these problems, try using an alternate browser or a different MS Windows based device.  Also make sure to install any updates to your browser in case Safari issues a patch to correct the problem.  Unfortunately, due to security issues, PayPal favors the PC.

If you have not filled out the conference form yet, return to Step1

If you have already filled out the conference or combo form, then you can go directly to the Payment page.
